The steps to getting a pool

To provide an accurate quote, it really is best  to meet with you on site, discuss with you exactly what YOU want and then come back to you with a fixed quote in writing.

We don’t quote over the phone. It’s impossible to assess your site conditions and what it is what you want in your new pool, without seeing the site and talking to you. We think any company that’s prepared to give you a price over the phone, isn’t serious about your project, and that you can expect that price to change when the project starts.

As a family business, our pricing is always VERY COMPETITIVE, as our overheads and margins are low. As in any industry, there are companies that rely on being the absolute cheapest price to get business. But remember, you are investing a significant amount of money, and when you buy a Freestyle Pool, you deal only with the builder from quoting to completion, we don’t cut any corners and what we build will last your family a very long time.

The important difference Freestyle Pools offers its customers, is that the person who quotes your pool, builds your pool, so you can have comfort in knowing, that unless you change inclusions, the price you have been given is fixed. Likewise, unless it is an excavation involving rock, Freestyle Pools includes the excavation costs in the quoted price, not just an allowance like most companies, so you know from the start, there will be no surprises.

Once you’re happy with the quote and other information that we have provided, the next step is to detail everything in the pool contract. We use only the Qld Master Builders Pool Contract.

This documents all aspects of the pool construction process and clearly outlines all the financial aspects of the agreement. Importantly, the Master Builders contract protects your interests as you are not required to pay for any work until the stage is completed (except for the 5% deposit). It has 6 clearly defined work stages, none of which is to be paid for until completion.  Peace of mind for us and our customers

We will take care of all council approval and engineering for you. As soon as we have completed the Master Builders contract, we will immediately lodge all the required documents to have the pool approved, which normally takes about 2 weeks. We will need your Lot and RP numbers, which are on your rates notice, and if you have a copy of your house site plan, this is also helpful (not essential).

Standard Council and Certification fees are included in our contract price.  If your application requires relaxations, such as a build over sewer or boundary relaxation, these additional fees will be advised of at the time.

Once we have received council approval, we’re ready to get your pool in the ground. Prior to excavation, we will meet with you on site, to mark out the pool and ensure that you’re happy with the positioning and the dimensions of the pool. Once this is confirmed, we’re ready to dig. 

Step 1: Excavation

Using from 1.5 up to 13 tonne machines, we can dig with as little as 1 metre of access

Step 2: Formwork and Steelwork

All pool steelwork is inspected by engineers prior to the shell being sprayed

Step 3: Spraying The Concrete Shell

Using 25MPA pool spray concrete to comply with Australian Standard (AS2783)

Step 4: Curing The Finished Shell

We ensure that the shell cures for 28 days before applying the  interior finish, to ensure proper curing time for the concrete and

therefore proper adhesion of the pebble to the shell.

Generally, we will organise to install your external pool plumbing, lighting and filtration during the period in which your pool is curing. Obviously, we will discuss with you, prior to excavation, where you want your filtration point to be, and install the required pipework to that point.

There is a wide range of filtration and sanitation equipment available to service your pool, and we can discuss all of these options with you during the quotation process.

after the required curing period, the next steps are to lay the pool coping tile (the tile on top of the pool), and if you chose one, an internal waterline tileband. Both these jobs are highly specialised and require that the tilers bed and render the required areas to ensure a perfectly level surface.

Obviously water will always find the perfect level, and errors in the pool tiling will be very easy to see. Our tiling crews specialise in pool tiling, from fully tiled, right through to coping and ensure the highest quality finish.

Making the Tile Bed

A perfectly level concrete bed must be laid on the entire pool coping to ensure proper levels.  A concrete is laid directly, with special additive, to the pool shell to ensure perfect level prior to laying the coping tile.

Coping tiles or pavers are generally 400mm wide and are glued directly to the coping tile bed

Laying a fully tiled pool

It is highly specialised and requires great skill to cut and lay to optimise the finished product.  There is extra expense involved in laying 

a fully tiled pool, but the results can be outstanding.

Current pool fencing legislation requires that  your pool fencing is in place before your pool’s interior finish is in place.

Installation of the pool interior pebble surface will take approximately 3-4 hours.   On  the day after the interior pebble is installed in your pool, the pebble crew will acid wash the surface. Once this is completed, your pool will commence filling.

We will organise the inspection of your pool fence to ensure it meets the required standards, prior to the pebbling of the pool. This inspection fee is included as part of your certification fee. Remember your resuscitation sign must be displayed in the pool enclosure, for your pool to pass inspection.

Once your pool is full, we will do all the things necessary to get the pool running and to handover the pool to you, ready to swim:

Start the filtration system and install your pool cleaner
Place all the required chemicals, including salt, in the pool
Give you instructions on how to operate the pool and the filtration
